Our latest group arrives December 7 and we start by heading out to the Serengeti plains, Ngorogoro Crater and Lake Manyara. December is the best time to visit the Southern Serengeti to catch the wildebeest migration. While this area is relatively quiet for most of the year, when the short rains arrive, it brings the herds to this southern region. It is the perfect place to start a safari for its close proximity to Ngorogoro Crater and Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Conservation Area is a multi-use region with the promotion of wildlife coexisting with the semi-nomadic Maasai people and their livestock herds. The crater is the world’s largest caldera and it has an amazingly high density of animals, including many threatened species. Lake Manyara is a stop well worth taking on the route between Ngorogoro and Mt. Kilimanjaro. While it is a small park without the animal density of other areas, the scenery and flamingos around the lake are beautiful and there is the chance of glimpsing the rare tree climbing lions.

Then to the mountain, to climb to the top of Africa. At 19,330 feet, Kilamanjaro is the tallest free standing mountain in the world. We will be climbing the picturesque Machame route over 8 days. It is a testing climb that traverses through 5 diverse ecological zones with different climates, flora and fauna. We do love this route, with its challenges, good acclimatization and beauty.

We will be finishing up this perfect holiday on the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar. We will be staying on the northern coast of Nungwi, which combines the beauty of Zanzibar’s tropical white sandy beaches with the rich fishing culture of the island. Nungwi is the perfect place for snorkeling, diving and other water sports; sitting back and relaxing with the waves and the sunsets, or exploring the old fishing village to watch the dhow builders and Swahili fishermen.
